Itinerary Details

  1. Day 1Arrival - Christchurch

    After settling into the hotel the group meets for the first time in the afternoon. Time and weather permitting you will take a short drive up the nearby Port Hills to the Sign of the Kiwi, where guests can enjoy a coffee with magnificent views on a clear day. Bike fittings will take place today.

  2. Day 2From Christchurch to Twizel: Alps2Ocean

    You will leave Christchurch early and drive south through the Canterbury Plains heading towards Lake Tekapo where you will get ready for your first ride. Starting on the edge of the lake famous for its turquoise waters, the ride takes in golden tussock land, surreal blue canals, and one of the trail’s best lookouts overlooking Lake Pukaki and the Southern Alps. You'll then ride to your destination of Twizel for the night.

  3. Day 3From Twizel to Clyde: Alps2Ocean

    After breakfast, you will get on your bike and continue on the next leg of the Alps 2 Ocean trail to the edge of Lake Ohau. The Ben Ohau Range dwarfs all and sundry as you follow the lake foreshore towards Lake Ohau Village and its lodge – perfectly positioned for post-ride refreshments. After lunch, you will jump in the van and drive to Clyde.

  4. Day 4Clyde to Alexandra: Roxburgh Gorge Trail

    Today you will ride the stunning Roxburgh Gorge, which is one of New Zealand’s most visually spectacular day rides. The trail also incorporates a 45 minute jet boat ride up the river (included in tour cost.).

  5. Day 5Alexandra to Queenstown: Otago Rail Trail

    This morning you’ll ride part of the Otago Rail Trail ‘New Zealand’s original Great Ride’ from Oturehua to Alexandra. Then hop in the van for a drive to Queenstown where you'll spend the evening.

  6. Day 6Queenstown

    Today you will take a break from the bikes to explore one of the many activities Queenstown has to offer (all activities optional, not included in tour price). The tour operator highly recommends an excursion to Milford or Doubtful Sound - all can be pre-booked prior to the tour and paid for on the day of the activity.

    Another good option is to just relax and explore the cafes and shops along the waterfront.

  7. Day 7Queenstown to Wanaka: Queenstown Trail

    In the morning you’ll bike the incredible Queenstown Trail to the legendary gold mining town of Arrowtown. Then from Arrowtown, follow a cycle path to Kawarau Bridge. Afterwards, you will be driven over the Crown Range for incredible views, past the famous Cardrona Hotel and then on to Wanaka where you will spend the night.

  8. Day 8Wanaka to Fox Glacier: Hawea River Track

    This morning you'll ride directly from the hotel on the Wanaka Lakeside Trail, then down past Hawea River and ending at Gladstone. The van will then take you through the Mt Aspiring National Park to Fox Glacier for the evening.

  9. Day 9Fox Glacier to Hokitika: West Coast Wilderness Trail

    This morning presents a great opportunity to take a heli-flight over the Glaciers (weather permitting, pre-booking essential, not included in tour). For those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, perhaps a dip in the hot pools or a visit to the kiwi house might be more your scene? Mid-morning you'll head north to Ross where you will hop on your bike to start the first ride on the West Coast Wilderness Trail. You will ride from Ross to Hokitika, your destination for the night.

  10. Day 10Hokitika to Christchurch via the TranzAlpine

    It’s back on the bikes this morning for the last time and another stretch of the West Coast Wilderness trail – this time from Kumara to Greymouth – arriving in time to board the TranzAlpine for your spectacular train journey over Arthur’s Pass, back to Christchurch.  The tour ends when you arrive in Christchurch, however, the tour operator can book you an extra night in Christchurch if you wish to depart the next morning.
