Highlands & Coast of Vietnam

This is the kind of cycling day you envisage in your dreams as you make our way from Dalat’s highlands to the sea level in Nha Trang. The ride itself is wonderful as you tackle the combination of ascents and descents supported with vistas that will leave you gasping with delight.

Having reached Nha Trang you will take a vehicle into the city just so you have enough time to sample this area’s fantastic beach and a local beer or two from some of the excellent brew pubs. Following this relaxation time the group willl head for a wonderful local dinner together.

Trading the train for land, you are now firmly back on terra firma as the bikes are boarded again and pointed in the direction of Tam Quan. The route to this pretty, little village is the definition of gorgeous and is perfect for cycling. Quiet back roads neatly run along a beautiful sand dune peninsula and when you look back, the views are truly breathtaking. Mountains loom up behind you with awesome vistas over the bay.

The coast is your true companion today as you ride alongside it. But equally fun to see are the courteous and welcoming villagers, who wave you on and shout out their support. To reach Tam Quan there will be a short transfer into the village before going for dinner and settling in for the night.

Today packs in a wide variety of terrain as you combine coastal riding with some inland cycling too. To keep your mind and eyes fresh with different sights, there will be a breezy ride along the coast before heading inland to tackle some hills. These are steady and moderately challenging but present something new to take on.

The sights inland begin to change too as you glide over rivers on wooden bridges and pass local farmers caring for their rice paddies and water buffalo. This rural insight will leave you captivated as you head for the small city of Quang Ngai – the place of slumber tonight. While a quiet city, there is a superb view of the river from the hotel and the group will enjoy yet another fine meal and drinks together on this evening.

Vietnam has an absolutely fascinating history and today you have the opportunity to visit a location that is world renowned – the My Lai Massacre Memorial. This tragic place is home to where many unarmed Vietnamese people were brutally killed by American forces in the conflict between the countries. It acted as a huge turning point in the American public opinion on the war and as a memorial today it is a very moving place to visit. Supported by your local and knowledgeable guides, they will ensure you understand the magnitude of this place and answer any questions.

The day is begun with this visit before we continuing the coastal cruise on the bikes. Along the way, there will be a stop to observe the workings of traditional rice paper makers and mat weavers. These are extraordinary art forms and a popular source of work for Vietnamese villagers. It is quite the skill to witness in action and no mean feat to achieve. Following this there will be a sumptuous lunch of fresh seafood before heading to the hotel for the evening.

Picture Vietnam and you will envisage sleepy fishing villages and fishermen proudly nabbing their catch of the day. Today is your chance to enter this postcard moment as you go to a fresh market where the fish practically hop right out of the water and into the fishermen’s baskets. While you might be gawking at the fish and this special place, the vendors will be equally intrigued by you and happy to pose for pictures. This is a real rural spot that few tourists ever get out to which makes it a unique place to explore together.

Following this you'll board the bikes to take to the dirt roads through fishing villages, while continuing to wave at the passing, friendly locals. Finally, roll the bikes onto a boat as you set sail for the mesmerizing melting pot town of Hoi An. This beautiful town that so fantastically combines a variety of cultures will be the finishing point and is a wonderful place for exploring further and reflecting on this epic adventure.
