Discover the history and beauty that surrounds the Twin Coast Cycle Trail between Pahia & the Pacific Ocean on the east, & the Hokianga Harbour on the west. The 87km trail follows the path of long-gone railways, logging trams & water races from the mining days, weaving its way through estuarys edged with mangroves, across graceful suspension bridges & rolling farmland. Dip your wheel in the Pacific and Tasman Seas on the Twin Coast Trail as you explore wetlands, native forest, rolling farmland & historic townships. Discover the glittering Bay of Islands by boat or kayak and visit Tane Mahuta, New Zealand’s largest remaining kauri tree.

In true Northland style, the trail is scattered with hidden gems, including the famous mosaic Huntervasser toilets, an 80m tunnel & classic Kiwi pubs.
Your expert guides will show you the best highlights on and off the trail including a ferry to Russel & walk up Flagstaff Hill, a visit to the Te Rito Marae & the opportunity to explore the Bay of Islands by kayak, paddleboard or jet ski.
Character-filled towns, atmospheric accommodation and friendly welcomes are all part of the package, as is the passion and local knowledge of the crew. Being invited on to a marae is always a special experience and the visit to Te Rito Marae gives you the opportunity to meet the local Hapu and learn about their history, place and people through evocative stories.
The Twin Coast Bike Walk and Splash is graded introductory. The gravel cycle trail is easy, wide and flat for most of the way. You will need a reasonable level of fitness and the ability to bike for a few hours at a time. The walks are short and if you choose to undertake a water-based activity such as a kayak or paddleboard, no experience is required, but you do need to be able to swim. The tour operator suggests 2 hours of cycling and walking per week for the three months leading up to your trip. The more time you have spent on your bike in preparation and riding on compacted gravel, the more enjoyable your trip will be.
Note: This tour is available on-demand for a private group with a minimum of 10 people. Prices start from NZD 2,095.00 per person.
