Picture Thailand and your first thoughts may be pristine beaches, but the diversity of landscapes is vast and this cycling adventure through the lower northern regions of this Southeast Asian country exemplifies this. Ditching the touristy attractions of the south you'll delve into authentic Thai culture and history and explore the region’s rugged geography on your way to the northern capital of Chiang Mai.

Leaving behind the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, board an overnight train on the first day – an incredible experience of its own accord – to head for the quiet city of Uttaradit. After touching down and freshening up, it’s time to saddle up as you jump on the bikes with your local and charming guides to begin this epic journey.

As you cruise through the countryside, the abundance of nature will truly leave you astounded. Cycling with some of Thailand’s tallest mountains as support, you will pass delightful sugar fields and orchards.

While nature is a constant companion, it would be good to understand and appreciate Thai culture too. Riding alongside the Yom River and observing the artistry of locals who weave and make pottery is a special moment that allows you a true insight into real life for villagers here.

Thailand packs in quite a vast history and you can explore that further at the Sukhothai Historical Park. Home to 190 ruins of the ancient city, the park is an impressive World Heritage Site that also boasts a beautiful array of lawns, lakes and trees. As you continue to glide further north on two wheels the moments of elation continue to flow as fast as the breath-taking views. Enthusiastic villagers cheer you on the way, while you lap up some comfort with a dip into some hot springs and gorge with delicious Thai cuisine in Lamphun.
