Welcome to the heart of MTB riding on NZ's North Island, Rotorua. You'll spend the first day fully exploring this MTB wonderland at the iconic 'Redwoods', Whakarewarewa Forest and head back to the central hub of Rotorua halfway through the tour to get into some more of the action. You'll enjoy soaking in hot springs, another famous feature of the town, after a day of adrenalin pumping action and benefit from a free 'rest' day in Rotorua to do as you please, perhaps try some other activities, or maybe bike some more! There's time to tinker with your bike if you prefer and a maintenance workshop is laid on, if that's your bag.
You'll also head out of town to ride the renowned Timber Trail over 2 incredible days. This classic multi-day backcountry MTB ride includes high suspension bridges, deep forest canyons, awesome rock formations and fantastical Lord Of The Rings scenery.
There's more to come as you ride the Great Lake Trail, skirting the shores of Lake Taupo, NZ's largest lake, and enjoying the flow and the clean, crisp air. For those who can hang around a little longer, there's the option on the last day of heli biking to the East Cape on the remote Pakihi track in the densely forested Urutawa Conservation Area, finishing in Rotorua. What a way to end a superb MTB tour of the North Island!
Note: In Rotorua, you can choose easier or harder tracks depending on your skill level. The rest of the cycling throughout the tour is graded 3 and is suitable for intermediate riders. This is a small group MTB tour for between 4-6 riders.
