This epic New Zealand road cycling tour takes you from southernmost Bluff to the northern end of the island, finishing in beautiful Picton, and is designed for serious cyclists.   • Where does the tour start and end?

    The tour starts in Invercargill, at the bottom of the south island. The airport is Invercargill Airport (IVC).

    The tour ends in Picton, at the top of the south island. The closest major airport there is Woodbourne Airport (BHE) which has regular domestic flights within NZ. Picton is also the gateway to travel to the north island via ferry and the ferries depart regularly.

  • How long is the tour? How many days riding?

    The tour is 14 days long with 10 days of riding. There are 2 rest days where there is the option to cycle if you would like. The other 2 days are the arrival and departure days.

  • What's the tour like?

    The tour is for those who are serious cyclists as you will be cycling between 73-156 kms (45 -96 mi) per day, with most days around the 120 km (74.5 mi) mark. The landscape changes along the way giving you variety in the scenic views, but you'll be riding along smooth, quiet roads for most of the tour. The elevation challenges vary throughout the tour, please see the itinerary for more information. There are some days with quite challenging continuous hill climbs and other days with mostly flat riding.

  • Can I hire a bike?

    Yes. Avanti Giro AR C1 are available to hire for NZD$45 per day.

  • Is there a minimum age?

    Yes. 18 is the minimum age for the tour.

  • If I'm traveling on my own, do I have to pay more?

    If you wish to have your own room or are traveling alone then a single supplement is payable.

  • Are helmets required?

    A helmet is required to be worn on all biking activities and is non-negotiable. If you do not wear a helmet you won't be allowed to cycle.

  • Is the tour guided?

    Yes, the tour is fully guided by passionate local leaders who are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. 

  • Is there any support?

    Yes, the tour is fully supported and a tour bus will be following you so you are welcome to hop on the bus at any point if the riding is too much.
