Vietnam is a country that follows its own beat, with a unique history, spectacular nature and traditions that wow so many visitors. Navigating this country can be done in so many ways, but by bicycle truly is very special on this helter-skelter trip as you take everything in from the mesmerizing highlands to the picturesque fishing villages that are the epitome of so many pictures in this Southeast Asian country.
Swap the bustle of Saigon for the cool mountain air of Dalat early on as you take a local flight. Dalat is a magnificent town with its misty pine forests, gorgeous smelling coffee plantations and pretty flower gardens. It’s easy to see why the French used to flock here as you descend from Dalat to the sea level of Nha Trang.
From there it’s the coastline’s chance to shine as ou pedal alongside the water into picturesque and practically unknown villages such as Tam Quan. Little known they may be but the route is spectacular with looming mountains, gorgeous bays and welcoming villages. It is sure to leave you craving more as you continue snaking up the coast.
Vietnam is renowned for its fascinating yet brutal history and you can observe this on the ride to the My Lai Massacre site – a tragic spot where innocent Vietnamese were killed by US forces in the conflict between the two countries. It is a moving place, but our experienced and local guides will be happy to answer your questions.
Afterwards, head for the picture perfect fishing villages and markets you envisage on postcards. These remote spots are so traditional and it is remarkable to observe the fishermen in action as they snap up the fish and sell them off quickly at the market.
The final destination is Hoi An – a spectacular town that combines all you could possibly want in one place. With a huge Chinese and Japanese influence there is architectural brilliance on every corner, while classic Vietnamese cuisine will keep you salivating. Throw in a beach, a picture perfect river and stunning countryside and you have the perfect place to conclude this adventure of a lifetime.
