  • Where does the tour start and end?

The tour begins and finishes in Genk, Belgium. You can fly in and out of Brussels Airport (BRU).

From Brussels Airport, a train can be taken to Genk. Travel time is approximately 2.5 hours.

  • How long is the tour? How many days cycling?

The tour is 8 days long with 6 days of cycling.

  • What's the tour like?

The tour is an easy cycling trip on relatively flat terrain, some stages will have a more winding character but still suitable for people with little or no cycling experience. Daily cycling distances span roughly 30-70 km.

On the whole, it is hard to predict how cyclists will experience the level of difficulty of their tour. It depends on a range of factors, some of them subjective. To name but a few:

-Wind direction and speed on a certain day. Headwind or tailwind?
-Weather conditions. Thirty kilometres may feel like longer in the rain.
-The number of gears on the (rental) bicycle.
-The general level of fitness of the cyclist and how they are feeling on the day.
-The number of consecutive cycling days.

This tour has 6 consecutive cycling days, all with moderate mileage, so do bear this in mind when booking and ensure you are fit enough to enjoy the tour. Note that e-bikes are available to hire should you be in any doubt about your ability.

  • How does the self-guided aspect work?

On arrival at your first hotel there will be a Route Pack awaiting you. It includes route descriptions, luggage labels and extra information. If you wish to consult this information beforehand, by way of preparation for the holiday, you can download the documents through the Tour Operator's website and print them at home. You will receive your Login details upon receipt of your booking confirmation.

The beauty of a self-guided cycle tour is that you can travel at your own pace, plan your own days but have a fixed, tried and tested, safe cycle route to guide you to your final destination. You also have accommodation booked in convenient spots along the way, your baggage transferred and the reassurance of support should you need it.

  • Can I rent a bike?

You will find your rental bikes waiting for you at your first hotel. The hotel reception staff will give you the keys for your bikes and direct you to the bicycle shed.

All bikes are provided with chain locks. If a bike gets stolen and your insurance does not cover this event, you will have to pay the costs yourself.

One pannier is included for standard bikes and the e-bikes.

  • What if it rains?

Make sure you always have your rain gear with you. Moreover, pack dry clothes in your water-proof pannier bags. That way you can change into dry clothes upon arrival at your hotel even if your luggage has not yet been delivered.

  • What time will my luggage be picked up / dropped off at the hotel?

Your luggage must be ready for pick-up at 09:00 hrs and will be delivered to your next hotel before 17:00 hrs.

  • What is SGR contribution?

From 1 February 2021, a SGR contribution of € 5 per person will be charged for every booking, with the exception of children younger than two years.

SGR is the most recognised and recognised quality mark for travellers. They are the largest guarantee fund in the Netherlands. If an affiliated travel organisation gets into financial difficulties before departure, you will be refunded the prepaid travel money. If you are already on a trip, the guarantee fund can ensure that you can complete the cycling trip. Your stay will then still be paid from the fund.

This SGR contribution had existed for some time, but the contribution for this was abolished in 1999. This is because the fund assets were large enough to cover normal risks without consumer contribution.

Due to Covid-19, SGR has issued more guarantees than usual and it is necessary to reinforce the fund capital again. This way you can continue to travel carefree in the future and you remain protected against bankruptcy risks of travel organisations affiliated with the SGR.

This fee is automatically added to your booking.
