Next, you will head to the shores of Lake Taupo, taking in the volcanic landscapes as you ride the Western Trail before taking a water taxi to explore the picturesque Northern Trails before returning to Auckland.

The support vehicle means you will have the ability to visit the best trailside highlights, including a visit to Huka Falls, Spa Thermal Park and the Wairakei Thermal Pools.

The Timber Trail, Waikato and Great Lake cycle tour is graded moderate. The Timber Trail is predominantly wide and smooth but there are some decent climbs and trickier sections, including mud and slippery roots making it best suited to reasonably fit, experienced cyclists. Along the Timber Trail and Great Lake Trail, there is no vehicle access, so you need to be able to ride 3-4 hours comfortably at a time. Good preparation, fitness and practice riding on off-road trails will add to your enjoyment of the tour.
