  1. Day 1Coyhaique

    Meet at the hostel in Coyhaique at 3:00pm to be briefed about the route, itineraries and program description. Travel equipment and bike conditions will also be checked. In addition, information on travel recommendations, road safety skills and minimum impact practices will be provided.

  2. Day 2Coyhaique - Villa Cerro Castillo

    Today you'll start on your first stretch of paved road of the Southern Carretera Austral. This part begins on flat lands with some slopes and uphills until you reach close to Laguna Chiguay. This is your lunch stop for the day and the environment is spectacular as you're surrounded by the Patagonian steppe and rock formations.

    From here, continue cycling and head for the Cuesta del Diablo  or Devil's Slope. The hairpin turns may be challenging but the scenic views are undeniably breathtaking. It'll be a downhill ride until you reach the town of Villa Cerro Castillo, your destination for the day.

  3. Day 3Villa Cerro Castillo - Valle de Murta

    The asphalt ends 15km after Villa Cerro Castillo after which a difficult section will start. Along the route will be attractions such as the Green Lagoon and Dead Forest found in the middle of the Ibáñez River. This peculiar landscape was made possible by the ashes coming from the Hudson Volcano eruption in 1991.

    Villa Cerro Castillo - Puerto Tranquilo
    Instead of finishing the day at Valle de Murta, keep cycling to Puerto Ronquillo. Cycle with General Carrera Lake, a dazzling turquoise-colored lake that's shared with Argentina. In the afternoon there will be a 44km van transfer to the night's accommodation.

  4. Day 4Valle de Murta - Puerto Río Tranquilo

    Expect steep climbs and loose gravel roads today. The landscape continues to be a delight with today's view being native forests. Cycle with Murta River in sight until you reach General Carrera Lake or Chelenko Lake. This lake that's shared with Argentina will dazzle you with it's turquoise waters. And finally, you'll reach the tourist town of Puerto Rio Tranquilo on the Southern Carretera Austral. The night will be spent here.

  5. Day 5Puerto Río Tranquilo - Puerto Bertrand

    You will start the tour bordering the lake. At this distance, you can admire valleys that descend from Campo de Hielo Norte, and you will arrive at the bridge "Lago General Carrera" where Lake Bertrand is born. You will arrive at the Maitén junction where the roads for Puerto Guadal and Chile Chico are bifurcated and continue on the Carretera Austral on a section of permanent ascents and slopes to reach Puerto Bertrand.

    There will be a 6km van transfer to the night's accommodation from Puerto Bertrand.

  6. Day 6Puerto Bertrand - Cochrane

    Continue along the Austral route heading south, following the Baker River in the middle of a Patagonian steppe landscape where the trees begin to disappear and the grasslands invade the landscape in the midst of sinuous mountains. You will stop for a walk to the junction of  Baker River with the Neff River, which descends from the depths of Campo de Hielo Norte. You will continue your journey passing very close to the Patagonia Park, where it is possible to see wildlife until you reach the town of Cochrane.

  7. Day 7Cochrane - Los Ñadis

    By gravel road and with the presence of slopes, you will cross the Emerald, Juncal and Chacabuco lakes, in the middle of Patagonian steppe fields, it will be possible to admire Mount San Lorenzo in perspective. You will continue by gravel road until descending the slope of the Ñadis, you will go into one of the best-kept secrets of Patagonia, in the middle of a unique landscape you will camp in the valley of Los Ñadis Sector.

    In this last section, you will continue through wetlands, peat bogs, passing through the transition from the Patagonian steppe to the evergreen forest, until you reach the famous town of Caleta Tortel, famous village of the  footbridges of cypress trees, which allow the houses to connect with the civic center and the public services of the commune.

    Half the day will be spent touring Caleta Tortel. After which the travel back to Coyhaique begins with an overnight stop at Puerto Bertrand
