  • Where does the tour start and end?

The tour starts and ends in central Christchurch where you will be collected and returned to at the end of the tour. Fly in/out of Christchurch International Airport (CHC).

  • How long is the tour? How many cycling days?

The tour is 5 days long with all 5 days being cycling days.

  • What's the tour like?

The Old Ghost Road Mountain Bike Adventure is graded challenging. You will need a very good level of fitness and technical mountain bike skills both ascending and descending. Although the tour is fully supported there are 3 days of the tour where there is no vehicle access and you must be comfortable riding 6-10 hours per day in all weather conditions.

The tour operator is not looking for skills in jumping gaps, drops or features but you do need to be comfortable riding single track which will be rocky, sandy, muddy, rooty or a combination.

  • Who will lead the group?

The guides are one of the biggest assets of the tour operator and they have pride for their level of quality and high standards. Once the trip reaches 8 people,  two expert guides will join to maximise your enjoyment and overall experience. You’ll know you’re in safe hands as all of the guides are certified in first aid and CPR and many of them are trained bike mechanics. They come from all walks of life but the guides have a common desire to give you the best possible experience, fun and lots of fond memories to take home with you.

  • Can I rent a bike?

Most riders prefer to bring their own bikes on this trip. Full-suspension bikes with 140mm of travel, robust all-condition tyres and a seat dropper are recommended. Bikes need to be in good shape and have been recently serviced.

Full-suspension bikes can be booked for NZD 120-130 per day and subject to availability. Please contact us if interested.

I had a great time. The scenery was magic and the riding was fun. Our guides Erin and Leah were absolutely fantastic - great riders, knowledgeable bike mechanics, very supportive, lots of fun and always looked after us and found the best places to eat after a long day of riding. We couldn't have asked for better guides.

Outstanding trip, spectacular scenery and awesome riding. Made all the better by the Adventure South Guides Erin and Leigh. You two rock!
