Enjoy a fantastic cycling experience from Auckland to Rotorua. In between, you will visit the delightful towns of Cambridge, Taupo and Napier. From these bases, you'll enjoy scenic rides on quiet country roads taking in rolling farmland, glittering lakes, volcanic fields, vineyards and coastal vistas. Both longer and more moderate daily rides have been developed for all riding levels. You will stay multiple nights in Cambridge and Napier, allowing time to enjoy some of the many activities such as visits to thoroughbred horse studs, award-winning wineries, visits to Hobbiton, a significant location used for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, Sanctuary Mountain, the largest eco-restoration project in NZ, to name but a few.

    The tour starts in Auckland, New Zealand. There is an international airport in Auckland (AKL) and it is a major hub for buses and trains to arrive.

    The tour ends in Rotorua. There is a regional domestic airport there (ROT) as the closest international airport is Auckland. The tour operator is happy to take you back to Auckland with them on the last day of the tour if you prefer.

  • How long is the tour? How many days riding?

    The tour is 9 days long with 6 days being riding days. The first day, counted as a non-riding day, actually has a short ride in the park included though. One of the non-riding days is a rest day in Hawke's Bay and there are plenty of trails there to follow, so if you wish to also bike on that day independently, you can.

  • What's the tour like?

    The tour explores the quieter, rural roads of NZ's North Island. On most days there are different options giving for how far you can cycle, depending on your energy levels. The tours are designed to be a relaxed cycle vacation. The knowledgeable, friendly local guides take pride in showcasing their country to you. Cycling distances given are entirely optional; cycle as little or as much as you wish each day, the minibus will always be available.

  • Can I rent a bike?

    Yes, the tour operator can supply road bikes, hybrids or E-bikes.

  • Who will carry my luggage and purchases?

    The support bus will carry your luggage and any wine purchases you might make along the way, leaving you free to enjoy the cycling.
