Embark on an independent self-guided bike tour of Turkey's rugged Lycian Coast, making use of occasional transfers to give you the best rides available over 8 days. Showcasing the natural beauty, cultural values and stunning archaeological sites of the area, you will have all day to ride the route at your own pace, stopping wherever you fancy to taste the fresh fruit for sale, drink a tea in one of the local cafes or simply soak up the views.   • Where does the tour start and end?

    The tour starts and ends at Dalaman Airport (DLM) where you will be transferred from on the first day and dropped off on the last day of the tour.

    You can be collected at any time from Dalaman Airport on day 1 although note if you arrive earlier you can get in some exploration adventures, listed on the itinerary. You will also need to arrive in good time to go to the office to be fitted to your bike on day 1, bearing in mind the transfer from the airport takes approx. 2.5 hours).

    At the end of the tour, the return transfer to Dalaman Airport can be arranged at a time to suit you.  

    Note that the transfers are only included on day 1 and day 8 of the tour.  If you book pre- or post-tour accommodation via Roar Adventures then the transfers can be adjusted to suit those dates.  If you book your own pre- or post-tour accommodation then the transfers will be an extra charge.

  • How long is the tour? How many days cycling?

    The tour is 8 days long with 5 full days of cycling and 1 rest day, however you will still have your bike with you so you can always ride on the rest day if preferred.

  • What's the tour like?

    You will cycle 203 km over five days (an average of 40 km per day). The roads are extremely quiet and the terrain is nicely varied; including flat and hilly sections with some steep ascents and descents. The route is graded as moderate.

    The roads are fairly wide and well maintained and Turkish drivers are very kind to cyclists, making this a lovely tour to ride.



  • Are helmets necessary/included?

    Helmets are obligatory in Turkey and they can be supplied if you need one at no extra charge.  Please let us know if you are not bringing your own.

  • Is there cell phone reception throughout the route?

    Cell phone service is extremely good along the route.  Phones will work at almost all points of the itinerary. The GPS route files that you will be sent to follow do, however, work offline and all the hotels have wifi.

  • Are there ATMs along the route?

    Yes, there is good ATM access along the route.  In Dalyan, Dalaman, Gocek, Fethiye, Patara and Kas specifically.  Cards can be used easily in most shops and restaurants so travelling with just a small amount of cash is probably best.

  • Can you tell me about the electrical outlets in Turkey, and is the water safe to drink?

    The electrical outlet is 220V and is the same plug adaptor as the rest of Europe.

    Regarding water in Turkey -  it is drinkable but may not taste great in the bigger towns.  There are roadside springs where good water can be found and lots of shops for bottled water.

  • Can I add extra days at the start or end of the tour?

    Yes, it is no problem to add on a few extra days - Kas is particularly recommended (at the start of the tour) - either with or without the bikes.  

  • How much support is there on tour? Will someone meet me at the start?

    On arrival you'll make your way to the operator's office, close to your hotel, and be fitted to your bikes.  You'll then be encouraged to go for a short ride so that if you have any issues these can be resolved before departure the next day.

    Whilst out on tour you are also expected to be able to fix a puncture, release a slipped chain, tighten brake cables as the pads wear etc, as there is not help around every corner on this self-guided adventure.  Phone and WhatsApp support is offered on this tour so you may wish to download WhatsApp to your phone in advance of arrival, if you do not have it already.



  • What happens if I can't ride the distances each day?

    As the route is rarely on the main road there are no useful public transport links.

    If you need to stop the ground operator can send a transfer vehicle which would take the bikes too and the charge would be based on the distance involved, and dependent on where the transfer would be coming from.

    If anyone does not want to ride at the start of a day, they can travel with the bags to the next location.  Assuming the bags and 1 bike and 1 customer can fit into the car, which should be OK if they can take the wheels off, that would be fine with no extra charges.

    Deciding part-way through a ride, that you've had enough for the day is not so easy/cheap (as above).


  • What other equipment comes with the rental bikes?

    A spare tube, tyre levers, pump and multi-tool are supplied with the bikes, but not bike lights as you shouldn't need these.

    Bike locks are not provided - they are not needed in this part of Turkey, however, some guests prefer to bring their own for their own peace of mind.

    All bikes have bottle holders on them as standard.  



  • Are panniers/handlebar bags provided?

    No but we can fit pannier racks if you'd like to bring your own.

I have recently completed a 7 day self guided cycling to of the Lycian with 3 other family members. [The operator] arranged all bikes, hotels, transfers, routes etc for the entire tour. All of us enjoyed it immensely the bikes were comfortable and importantly reliable, hotels were great all with pools ( fabulous after a day in the saddle) transfer of luggage was seamless and the route was a mix of amazing coastal scenery and rural roads. We have just finished an eight day ride along Turkey’s Mediterranean coast .... It was more wonderful then we had dreamed. The scenery was varied and breathtakingly beautiful. Thanks to the team at [the operator], we had an excellent eight-day cycling trip ... The entire experience was so smooth, from booking through departure. We haven’t done any kind of cycling trip before but they made things easy. The rented e-bikes were brand new and the hotels along the way were comfortable and welcoming. The route was beautiful - every day was a bit different but the scenery was stunning and the roads were entirely paved but primarily less-trafficked side roads. Mid-April was a good time for it - some of the towns were just opening for the season but there was very little traffic. Such a great experience and we would highly recommend them.
