There were 14 of us in the beautiful Hawke’s Bay for the weekend and this was definitely our highlight. They made it so easy for us, and were fine with us making a change to our finishing point when we got stuck at Elephant Hill enjoying the delicious wine and food.

Great experience with fantastic service

From the moment we contacted Takaro Trails to the time they dropped us back to our hotel at the end of the ride, the service from Chris at Takaro was first class.

We did the self guided Havelock to Cape Coast trip which is an easy 16 km along dedicated cycle paths and takes in up to 7 wineries.

Chris picked us up at our hotel and drove us to the start of the ride in Havelock. Clear concise route guidance and a map are provided so it is easy to follow the trails. Chris also organised and booked us into Elephant Wineries for a superb lunch. Chris collected us at the end of the ride and also gave us a potted history of the 200 km of cycle tracks around the Hawke's Bay area and of the Art Deco architecture of Napier town centre.

An all round great day out.

Thank you to Jenny, Craig and Sue for making our cycling trip so enjoyable. My husband and I had such a fabulous day on Saturday on the Havelock North and Cape Coast Wineries tour. From my phone booking to pick up from our hotel, drive to our first winery and pick up, nothing was too much trouble. All the gear was perfect and thank you for the recommendation for lunch at Clearview. We had such a fun trip and would def come back on our next trip to Napier. We also loved the cafe/cheese cafe on your tour. It was just a nice break from drinking wine during the day (haha). Thank you once again for your wonderful hospitality.

Great way to explore the Hawke's Bay wine region

After looking at a number of options for wine tours on bikes in the Hawke's Bay region, we settled on Takaro Trails. And we're glad we did!

Great bikes and kit, and really handy that they collect you and drop you off at your hotel, free of charge. There are a number of trails to choose from depending on how long you have and how many wineries you want to visit. We chose to do the Havelock North & Cape Coast Wineries tour, which was a great mix of cycling and wine tasting.

Lots of options to stop at, including cafes earlier on in the day. We thought the directions were really great and accurate too.

Can't recommend highly enough. Thank you!

Perfect day! We had so much fun on our cycle tour. Jenny was great – really helpful and friendly. The bikes were comfortable and the scenery was stunning. Not to mention the wine! We came away with quite a few bottles which they picked up for us along the way. I also liked the door to door pick-up/drop-off. Would definitely recommend :)

My wife and I took the Havelock North and Cape Coast Wineries tour and it was a great experience. We were picked up at our hotel and we were taken up to the Black Barn winery and we started from there. It was perfect for a one day activity; bikes were in excellent condition and we loved the wine tasting through all the wineries our guide recommended. Thanks for such a nice experience!

We did the "Havelock & Cape Coast Wineries Cycle" on Saturday. Jenny picked us up from our hotel & drove us out to Black Barn (the first winery). She set us up on our bikes with great detailed directions for our 16 km ride. It was such a great day, the cycle trails were well set out and it was an easy ride, which was good as I hadn't been on a bike for many years! The wineries were very informative and the tastings were great. The bikes had panniers so we were able to buy some wine and take it with us. We started around 10.30 am and Jenny picked us up at "Clearview", our last winery, where we had a lovely Dips Platter to finish off the day around 4 pm. Highly recommended as a fabulous experience when visiting Napier.

We went on the Havelock North and Cape Coast Wineries trail. It was a gorgeous day and Anna came and picked us up from the hotel for our adventure. Anna is great, she tells you all about the town as we were travelling to and from the hotel. We were dropped off at Red Barrel winery, Anna checked out bikes for height, made sure our helmets were secured and ran through our map of our trail. It was 16 km going past 7 wineries on the way where you could stop at your leisure. Wow what fun! I haven't been biking for about 10 years! it was such a great way to see the beautiful scenery, biking along the seaside, while stopping at wineries for a tasting. It's a fantastic trail where I felt safe on my bike the whole time, it was such a great day out meeting other cyclists at the wineries and dropping in to a cafe for a coffee and a bite to eat. We had lunch at Clearview Estate and it was great. Anna picked us up after a lovely day out and took us back to our hotel. Perfect day!

We did the Havelock North and Cape Coast Wineries ride. 16 km of nice flat trails along the river.

Jenny was really helpful choosing which ride to do, and they picked us up and dropped us back to our campsite no worries.

Wineries were great, we bought a bottle at each place. The food platter at the final winery, Clearview, was lovely.

Highly recommended!

Havelock North & Cape Coast Winery Day Cycle

Kim B
(Review obtained from Trip Advisor)

We were recently on holiday in Hawke's Bay for a friend's wedding and had a day up our sleeve for something fun. I decided to organise for a group of 7 of us to do a winery day cycle. We did the Takaro Trails 'Havelock North and Cape Coast Wineries' – 16 km one way day cycle which was an absolute blast!

We varied in cycling skill level but as it was a self guided tour we just took our time taking in the stunning scenery. The limestone pathways made for a very easy and flat ride but also beautifully scenic. Having never done a cycling tour we were all pleasantly surprised at how fun it truly was and not that strenuous, was actually a relaxing day. Most of us opted to wear jandals and dresses... just to show how ridiculously cavalier we were and this cycle was great! We started at 11am and were picked up at 4pm which was perfect for our meandering pace. I can't wait for the next one! Such a fun thing to do as a group.

The tour was so well organised. The directions were easy and the bikes were great for us all. They were all named and lined up waiting for us on arrival with complimentary water. We had a quick briefing session, checked bikes and helmets suited us all and then into Black Barn for our first tasting! (loved the pinot gris) We started at Black Barn Vineyard and were picked up at Te Awanga Estate. The wine tastings were great and we decided to spoil ourselves at Elephant Hills with a delectable cheese platter for afternoon tea, just divine. We enjoyed 4 out of 7 vineyards on our cycle which was perfect for us. A few delicious bottles were bought along the way that Jenny and the team would quite happily collect for us if we didn't want to carry them in the bike panniers (which are quite spacious) or we decided to buy a case!

We have another wedding in April so will definitely be getting this group to do a Takaro Trails itinerary as well. Such a great way to spend a day in Hawke's Bay.
