  • Where does the tour start and end?

    The tour starts in Nuriootpa and ends in Auburn. Nuriootpa is a 90-minute scenic drive from Adelaide and Auburn is a 2-hour drive from Adelaide.

    Fly in/out of Adelaide Airport (ADL).

    The easiest and recommended way to participate in this tour is with your own vehicle (no bike transport is required so any small or medium car is fine). Various hire car companies operate from Adelaide and on sites like Rentalcars.com you can compare all the major car rental firms to get the best price. Or use popular car hire firms, such as Thrifty or Avis.

    You will need to arrange your own transfers to get to the start point and between Barossa and Clare and return.  Transfers throughout can be provided for an additional fee of $750 AUD per group.

    At your first night's accommodation in Auburn, vehicles can be safely parked and left at the rear.  Bikes & your luggage will be taken care of by the operator.  Remember to let the tour operator know if you make any purchases that need collection ie. wine along the ride.  On your last day, you’ll be cycling back to Auburn where you can return your bike at the hotel and your luggage will be waiting.  Then you can jump in your car and head to wherever you’d like to go.

  • How long is the tour? How many days riding?

    The tour is 3 days long with 3 days cycling.

  • What's the tour like?

    The cycling is predominantly off road using the paved Barossa trail and the fantastic Riesling Rail Trail in the Clare.  Being self-guided you can ride as little or as much as you like (as long as you make the lunch bookings which are well worth a little effort).  This tour is fully supported with luggage transfers, on-call support, bikes, helmets, maps, directions and printed itineraries all provided.

  • Can I rent a bike?

    Yes. A 24 Gear Trek FX 7.2 Hybrid is available to hire. Alternatively, you can bring your own bike if you wish by prior arrangement.

    E-bikes are also available to hire if you prefer to have some electric assistance.

  • Is there a minimum age?

    Yes, 18 is the minimum age for the tour.

  • If I'm travelling on my own, do I have to pay more?

    If you are travelling alone, or are travelling with a group and wish to have your own room, a single supplement is payable.

  • Are helmets required?

    A helmet is required to be worn on all biking activities and is non-negotiable. If you do not wear a helmet you won't be allowed to cycle.

    The tour operator does have helmets available to hire but if you have your own this is preferable so that you are comfortable with a well-fitted helmet.

  • As the tour is self-guided, how will I know where to go?

    Your arrival information will include detailed, daily riding instructions for your tour along with the map showing your route highlighted. Riding instructions will provide thorough information and give you the flexibility to travel at your own pace.

  • What are the transport arrangements?

    This tour requires transport between the regions as follows:

    Day 1: Adelaide to Barossa start of day
    Day 2: Barossa to Auburn start of day
    Day 3: No transport required
    Day 4: Auburn back to Adelaide or onward journey at end of tour

    The available transport options are:

    1. Self drive (own vehicle or hire car), where bikes can be arranged in each of the regions so you don't have to carry them, just ride! This option is recommended for couples or small groups.

    2. Book a transport service with the Tour Operator for an additional fee (ideal for groups)

We have 3 days cycling tour by good e-bikes. First day around Nuriootpa and then nice,quiet, Riesling Trail around Auburn-Clare-Auburn with good Food and Wine. We recommend.

We just came back from a girls weekend away, cycling the Riesling Trail in the Clare Valley. It was amazing and we would all definitely do it again next weekend if it was possible. There were 9 of us with varying cycling abilities but the high quality bike hire made the cycling enjoyable for any fitness level. We thought the tour was great value for money. We did the self-guided option and had no trouble following the maps and directions. The accommodation was perfect, the food delicious, hospitality friendly and scenery amazing. We are already planning our next group trip and some of us are planning other trips with partners/family. So much better than a winery trip sitting in the car.
