The sightseeing is almost as compelling as the rides on this tour of the largest province in India. The comfortable accommodations include some far more exotic than the usual tour hotel: a night in a palace in Ras and a restored Rawla, the home of a long-ago chieftain. Stunning views, visits to temples and palaces, and pleasant daily rides add up to an entirely enjoyable and enlighhtening visit to Rajasthan.

  • How long is the tour? How many days of riding?

This tour is 12 days long, with 8 riding days.

  • How many riders will be in the group?

Groups can be from 2 to 16. For groups of 9 or more, a second guide joins the tour.

  • Is there a minimum age for this tour?

Yes, riders must be 18 years old by the time the tour starts.

  • Are bikes included in the tour?

No, bikes are not included however they can be hired locally.

The bikes are well-known makes of mountain bikes with lightweight alloy frames, 24- to 27-speed gearing, v-brakes, and Shimano components and front suspension. If you bring your own bike, please make sure it is a mountain bike, preferably with front suspension, in good mechanical order.

E-bikes are not available on this tour.

  • What's the tour like?

The ride takes 570 km in 8 days of cycling. Most of the tour is on relatively flat terrain and on paved roads, so the distances are not too strenuous. Most days are between 70 - 80 km of riding, with a shorter 20 km ride on day 9 when we visit Kumbhalgarh Fort. Day 8 is the only day with significant climbing as you head into the Aravalli hills. This is complemented with a refreshing descent to towards Udaipur on Day 10. In Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur there are non-cycling days as we explore the cities sites via car and foot. The route was designed to take in the best of Rajasthan's culture all while enjoying an active holiday.

The trip is fully supported, and your guide’s expert knowledge of the area and terrain means that you always know what is coming up in terms of distance and difficulty. This makes a tremendous difference, as does the constant supply of water and refreshments along the way.

Suitability: This is a moderately difficult trip that anyone with a reasonable level of fitness will enjoy. Most of the riding is relatively flat with only one day of more serious climbing. Navigating gravely and cratered country roads requires some handling skills but does not require technical maneuvering. While we avoid the hottest times of the year, this is an arid region so day time temperatures still feel warm and dry when cycling. The support vehicle is always nearby to offer refuge to any weary cyclists!

Biking Conditions: This trip is on a mix of asphalt and gravel roads. The conditions of these surfaces vary widely depending on the specific location, but be prepared for potholes and dust! While much of the route is on quiet, countryside roads with minimal traffic, we will be regularly sharing the roads with other vehicles, including cars, motorbikes, and buses. Oh, and cows and camels - lots of them!

  • Am I safe?

The tour leader is trained in first aid and emergency rescue. But to a large degree, riders must be responsible for their own safety during the tour. It is therefore compulsory that you take out travel insurance that will cover you for a cycling tour.

  • Where does the tour start and finish?

The tour starts in Jaipur with the closest airport being Jaipur International Airport (JAI). It ends in Udaipur with the closest airport being Maharana Pratap Airport (UDR).

  • Do I have to pay if traveling alone?

You are not required to pay a surcharge for traveling alone. The tour operator will arrange for you to share accommodation with another traveler of the same gender. If you cannot be matched, they will provide a single room at no extra charge. If you prefer not to share, a single supplement is payable to guarantee your own room.

  • Please see a message from the tour operator about policies relating to COVID-19

The Tour Operator is committed to ensuring all trips are safe and that they travel responsibly with the safety of riders, staff and local communities paramount, always.

Their health and safety policies follow recommendations from the World Health Organization and the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) Safe Travel protocols for tour operators and they have worked with all their suppliers to undergo a comprehensive risk assessment and safety audit for every trip. - The Tour Operator follows the World Travel and Tourism Council’s Safe Travels protocol and has received the stamp of approval, which provides travelers with an assurance that they have adopted the health and hygiene global standardised protocols.

All in all a superb trip

1. Our guide - Jehan was fantastic! He was competent, knowledgable, authentic and so enthusiastic. Moreover, he has a wonderful gentle sense of humor which became increasingly evident throughout the tour, both through his anecdotes of life, history and culture of India but also in the manner in which he interacted with all the guests on the tour.

2. The other guests (a couple from the UK) who were a joy to be with for almost two weeks. We shared the 'journey' in so many ways but always in good spirits with lots of friendly banter.

3. Accommodation - All great with a few through the middle of the tour being exceptional.

4. The route - Th cycling days averaged 60km with one day of 90km. Mostly flat terrain but there was one day of 50km riding that was quite strenuous. However, with the cohesion of the group, the riding on all days was enjoyed. Most particularly, I enjoyed the morning rides through villages where day to day life unfolded before our eyes.

5. The food - Much to Jehan's credit, we enjoyed a rich array of coal delights for every meal. To my knowledge, nobody experienced the slightest touch of 'Delhi Belly'. On the contrary, the dishes were always fresh and served with complete hygiene.

6. The extra bits that make all the difference:
great bikes that were perfect for the conditions
fantastic bus/support vehicle with two team members that were very friendly and efficient
great pre tour information and liaison particularly via heaps of interaction with Penchudee who has always been friendly an efficient in responding to my queries

An introduction to India

Riding Regal Rajasthan was an awesome way to introduce to the wonders of India.

Not the usual tourist spots
William Self — November 2015
(Review obtained from Tour Operator)

We saw not only the usual tourist spots, but areas in India that could only be experienced by bike. Eating food with and from the locals was a treat. Our guide was quite knowledgeable and full of enthusiasm.
